Myra Brothel
From ENHLDWiki
Added on to Tony's Tin shop in 1920 the Upper floor completed the connection between the one story front (tin shop) and the two story rear (a separate living quarters at the time). Tony originally had family living up in these rooms but by 1926 they had left and he rented the entire upper floor to Ted and Mary Owen. The directory shows (rooms) however one of Tony's daughters is still alive and has verbally passed on some stories to Pat Mohan (current owner and also Grandson of Tony). First when she was a small girl she would play with dolls at the landing at the top of the stairs. She remembers a string of men day and night coming in and out of the building. She has told of how they would go to the parlor and then down the hall with a girl. Many of these were probably from the Colorado Mine as it was located just about 150 yards to the rear of the 108 S Arizona. She has also told of how Ted was found dead with another prostitute in another brothel in 1929. We believe this is why the Myra brothel no longer shows after 1930 being operated by the Owen's. Almost all the original beds in the six-room brothel and the one hide-a-bed (c. 1900) were in the rooms when these were cleaned and repaired for historical tours. Family has lived in some of these rooms over the years for short periods of time but several truck loads of junk that had accumulated from the 1940s through the 1990s were removed to show the "old".
