Help:How do I make add a person to the directory or other category?

About Categories
Categories are powerful ways to automatically sort articles into related groups. Every article should (eventually) have at least one category, and some may have many. Please scan the list of Special:Categories both to see what has been started and to get ideas for other category topics. Note that when you make a link to a category, as described below, spelling and capitalization must be exact.
How to decide?
Should it go in Category:Hotels or Category:Apartments or both? Is the resident notable enough for Category:Noted Residents? Questions like these are subjective - you should JUST DO IT! If someone else has strong feelings about it, he or she can discuss it with you right here in the wiki, on your talk page, on the general discussion page, or on the talk page of the article in question.
Adding a Single Page
To add a page to a category, such as the Properties category, in the "edit" box for that page simply add the name of the category to the end of the page, like this:
[[Category:Properties]]
The wiki will automatically include that page as an article in the category. You do this on the page you want to add to the category, NOT the category page itself - that page is updated automatically when you follow the procedure above.
You can do this for multiple categories for the same page, such as [[Category:Properties]] [[Category:Schools]].
Note that Categories will only list pages that have the tags described above added to them. Our master index is the Content Index, which may include pages that have not yet been made (or categorized). They show up as the red links in the Content Index if they do not exist, but there is no way to see if existing pages are uncategorized other than to look at the page, or by going to Special:Uncategorizedpages.
Categories to always (try to) include
Every property should be in [[Category:Properties]]. To the extent possible, every property should be in [[Category:Structures built in XXXXs]] (where XXXX is a decade from 1870s-1930s). If an architect is known, be sure to add the page to [[Category:Structures designed by so-and-so]]. Most other categories, like Schools, Churches, Labor History, Ethnic Heritage, and so on are pretty self-explanatory.
Using Categories
If you are working on, say, a mineyard, or a church, and you learn or think of something that should be added to another mineyard, or church, you can easily find all the mineyards or churches in our wiki by clicking on the category. Easier than wading through the master content index.
The category list is also a quick and easy way to determine if some property is missing from the project (but beware that there may be an existing page that lacks categorization, so always check the master content index too).
Adding a Subcategory Page to a Category
To add a Subcategory edit the Subcategory page and include the internal link just like above.
Creating a new category
Suppose you are working on some pages and find that you need to create the category Structures built by Architect X. Just add [[Category:Structures built by Architect X]] at the bottom of the pages you wish to categorize. It will show up as a red link; if you click on the red link, you can edit the Category page -- but only to put the description of the category at the top. Just fill in the edit box as usual. If you have not already done so, please scan the list of Special:Categories to be sure the category you want does not already exist under a similar name -- such as, for our example, Structures Built by Architect X with a capital B on Built.
