Goals
From ENHLDWiki
[edit]
Mission/Goals as originally expressed
To create a digital, cutting-edge, user-friendly framework for access to information on the 6,015 contributing properties in the Butte-Anaconda-Walkerville National Historic Landmark District for researchers, students, and the general public. The interface would incorporate Google Earth style technology, as well as ultimately WikiMedia interactivity. Long-term goal is to have this project serve as both a model and a central repository for similar information provided by all NHLs and NHLDs in the nation.
[edit]
2008
- By the end of 2008, we aspire to adding descriptions and photographs to most of the 300+ articles listed on the Content Index as of March 2008.
- We hope that many historians, knowledgeable amateurs, and members of the public with specific material to contribute -- even if only to one article -- will become members of a community dedicated to making this the most comprehensive collection anywhere of information about Butte's architectural treasures great and small.
- The strength of the wiki format is in its ability to foster collaboration, discussion, and consensus.

Long-Term
Our long-term aim-high goals include the following:
- Descriptions for all 6000+ contributing properties in the Butte-Anaconda-Walkerville National Historic Landmark District, including those that have been lost.
- Expanded articles on related topics, including architects, literary figures, and Butte-Anaconda history in general.
- Getting Google Earth to buy in to the project. See the ENHLD Summary, Project Concept, and Draft Narrative, all related to the original grant proposal, for more detail.
- Establish ourselves as the model for a wiki- and Google Earth-based interface for resources about history nationwide, for NHLDs in particular.
